Pearl Introduces New Carbonply Marching Drums

Pearl CarbonplyPearl has announced a new line of marching drums with shells made of a high-density carbon fiber cloth and six plys of African Mahogany. The use of mahogany "increases resonance and enhances the lower frequencies" while the carbon plys on the inside and outside "increases volume and response while enhancing the higher frequencies". Supposedly, the combination offers a unique sound unheard in the marching activity today.

Do you know if these new drums were used as prototypes by any corps last summer? I would think mahogany would be a great deal heavier than maple.
