HS Competitions & BOA

So tomorrow is October 1st - the start of the busiest month of the year for HS marching band competitions. Besides local contests, BOA has two contests slated for tomorrow: BOA La Joya and BOA Houston, both in Texas. Unfortunately, Hurricane Rita has caused a handful of groups to pull out of the Houston event, but the show will go on as planned. Due to the circumstances, some minor exceptions have been made to help bands meet the minimum requirements to perform at the BOA Houston event such as 5 minute show minimums as opposed to the usual 7 minutes.

Locally, the Owasso Invitational is tomorrow - 22 bands from 4 states, and 12 of those are 6A bands (editor's note: 6A is equal to 5A in Texas or AAA in BOA terms). Also, a few BOA bands will be in attendance which include Broken Arrow, Union, Collinsville, and Owasso (in exhibition). Also of note, is O'Fallon Township from Illinois who is driving down to the Owasso contest. As usual, we've got a killer panel of judges and I look forward to what they have to say.

I hear Collinsville has an excellent percussion book this year.
